More instructions might be shared as we get closer to the date.
Both temples offer two paths depending on the weather that day - ‘Peruvazhi Paathai’ (Big Route) is a forest-like route. ‘Siruvazhi paathai’ (Small Route) is less than half of the big route. Swamis will be announced to assemble for their respective routes.
Kanni swamys (wearing Ayyappa maalai for first time in life) will be handed a ‘Saram’ before the yaathirai begins.
All through the yaathirai, only sarana ghoshams should be chanted, as loud as possible, no chit chat, no laughing, no thoughts other than Swami Ayyappan.
The path/experience will be rough, and no slippers/sandals are allowed. You can bring a pair of new woolen socks if for health reasons. Along the same lines, all gentlemen will not be wearing shirts, you can bring a woolen shawl if you cannot withstand the cold.
Water/Sugar can be provided by bhakthas along the yaathrai path (without disturbing), if swamys (particularly kids) get tired or as an encouragement.
Yaathrai is expected to last 20–40 minutes before we reach the Holy 18 Steps.
Seniors and small kids may seek volunteers’ help and the yaathirai can be reduced to just a ‘prathakshnam’ of the temple for them just before ‘pEttai thullal’
Depending on weather, there might be a ‘pEttai thullal’ (Swami’s dance) before proceeding to the Holy 18 steps.
Guruswamys will instruct Kanni swamys to submit the ‘Saram’ in ‘Sarankutthy Aal’ before the Holy 18 Steps.
